US Virgin Islands Subpoenas Musk's Epstein Docs

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Inc, has been asked for documents by the US Virgin Islands. They're in the middle of a lawsuit with JPMorgan Chase & Co. The lawsuit claims that JPMorgan helped Jeffrey Epstein carry out sexual abuse. Epstein has since passed away.

On April 28, they gave Musk a subpoena but couldn't serve him. So, the Virgin Islands asked to serve him differently. This all came out on Monday.

Musk won't be questioned under oath by the US territory. The subpoena doesn't accuse him of doing anything wrong.

Musk might have been referred to JPMorgan by Epstein, says Monday court filing. He's one of the richest people alive. The Virgin Islands wants documents from Musk, but didn't give a reason why.

On Monday, Musk tweeted that he wouldn't listen to Epstein's financial advice. He thinks it's absurd to suggest that he would.

He talked about Epstein. He said Epstein never advised him. He called Epstein a cretin.

In 2019, Epstein passed away by suicide in his prison cell in Manhattan. He was waiting for his trial on charges of sex trafficking.

JPMorgan is being accused by the US Virgin Islands. The accusation is about them missing red flags. These red flags had to do with Epstein's abuse of women on his private island. This island was called Little St. James. Epstein owned the island.

The bank says it doesn't know about Epstein's crimes.

The Virgin Islands asked Musk for papers on Epstein's trafficking and prostitution of women and girls.

The subpoena asked for messages between the entrepreneur and JPMorgan about Epstein. It also asked for messages between Musk and Epstein. The subpoena also requested documents about fees Musk paid to Epstein or JPMorgan.

Nobody knows for sure how close Musk and Epstein were. Musk and Tesla denied rumors in 2019 that Epstein was helping Musk with his regulatory troubles. The rumors started when Musk claimed he had secured the funds to make Tesla a private company. The New York Times reported this.

Musk's spokeswoman said Epstein never advised him. This was reported by the New York Times.

The Virgin Islands litigation has also affected Musk. Judge Jed Rakoff mentioned that Larry Page could receive legal documents from the territory. Rakoff didn't mention what kind of information they want from Page, who co-founded Google's parent company, Alphabet Inc.

Tesla's commercial banking was with JPMorgan, but this stopped because JPMorgan didn't back the car rental side. Musk spoke about this in court.

In 2018, Musk tweeted that he had the money to take Tesla private. Shareholders sued him, claiming that the tweet was false and caused them to lose billions of dollars. However, the jury found Musk not guilty.

Tesla was sued by JPMorgan in 2021 for $162 million over a tweet. The tweet caused repricing of Tesla stock warrants. Tesla also sued JPMorgan last year for seeking a windfall.

A judge said no to a request to remove JPMorgan's law firm from the Epstein litigation.
