Over 2,500 employees of Lunds and Byerlys have declared their plan to go on strike.

If you're thinking about buying your Fourth of July goodies from Lunds & Byerlys, you should make some preparations in advance. The grocery chain is facing a strike as over 2,500 employees have joined forces to organize it.

The Local 663 of United Food and Commercial Workers have decided to approve a potential strike in various stores across the metro area. They are protesting against the alleged unfair labor practices.

Workers who belong to a union are planning to strike at Lunds & Byerlys stores for the first time. The strike is scheduled to start on Thursday, June 29 and last until Saturday, July 1. This timing is right before the Fourth of July weekend, which is a very busy time for the grocery store.

According to them, they proposed a strike as a final option after ongoing discussions about the contract failed to yield any results for months. However, they are optimistic that an agreement can be reached between both parties within the upcoming days, which will prevent them from having to commence with a strike.

The planned protest would have an impact on over 20 spots throughout the metropolitan region, extending from Maple Grove in the northernmost region, all the way down to Prior Lake in the south, and also stretching westwards towards Wayzata.

Workers of the union have reported that they have been performing their tasks without a contract from the start of March. They plan to keep pushing for higher wages, fair payment, and upkeep of healthcare that is based on the demands of the workers. According to them, the value of their work exceeds what the supermarket is proposing.

Rosemary Luoma, an employee of Lunds & Byerlys, expressed their dedication to providing exceptional customer service. They are committed to going above and beyond, even in adverse weather conditions, to ensure customer satisfaction. The company takes pride in their position as a leader in the industry, maintaining a consistent reputation of being the best in customer service.

Lund & Byerlys released a statement regarding the ongoing strike, expressing their disappointment. However, they emphasized that they are offering one of the most competitive wage proposals in the industry and are optimistic about reaching a mutually beneficial agreement with the striking employees.

The statement expressed that Lunds & Byerlys greatly appreciates all of their employees and has demonstrated this through the many offers they have made during negotiations with UFCW Local 663.

The supermarket franchise has also declared that they have a strategy set up to ensure that the shopping process remains uninterrupted if a strike does occur. The particulars of this plan are currently being worked out.
