Square, the digital payment platform, has been hit by disruptions and reduced efficiency in its various services, which has left entrepreneurs puzzled.

Several services of the touchless payment platform have been closed down in various locations, both within the country and internationally. Square was the first to notice the problem at around 3 am on Friday.

According to a statement, the engineers at the company are currently "actively working towards finding a solution".

As of 10.15am, there was an ongoing issue of "reduced efficiency" affecting various services.

Square declined to disclose the specific reason behind the disruption, citing only vague "problems."

"We recognize the significance of ensuring our services remain operational for the success of your business, and we are actively striving to resolve the issue," the company stated.

Many small and medium-sized retail and hospitality businesses frequently utilize the payment system, Square, to conveniently accept contactless payments and credit cards.

Small business owners are expressing anger and frustration as they allege that Friday's outage resulted in a significant decrease in their earnings.

Rhiannon Druce, the head honcho at Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory, expressed that she was left with no choice but to request patrons to "return and settle their bill using physical currency."

According to Ms Druce, the power failure compelled her to request customers to return and make payment using physical currency.

"She mentioned that today, due to technical difficulties with Square, a nationwide problem is preventing eighty percent of our customers from making card payments."

Telstra is currently working on resolving internet problems caused by recent storms. Unfortunately, we are unsure of the duration of our inability to process card payments from customers due to the ongoing disruption of the Square platform.

Just a few days back, we were facing problems with Square. In an effort to resolve the issue, we completely replaced the hardware, which was delivered to us yesterday. But unfortunately, today it is not functioning due to a more significant problem that is likely to affect businesses across the board.

When reached out for a response, a representative from Square reiterated the identical details already shared on Twitter at 9 in the morning.
