Faulty trunk latches prompt recall of nearly 20,000 Kia vehicles in Canada

Kia has issued a recall for approximately 20,000 automobiles in Canada because there are problems with the trunk latches. This decision follows a previous recall of roughly 320,000 vehicles in the United States. The purpose of this recall is to rectify a potential concern that may obstruct the opening of the trunk from within the car.

According to a representative from Kia Canada, a recall has been issued for a total of 7,207 Rio sedans from the years 2016 and 2017, 12,110 Optima sedans spanning from 2016 to 2018, and 599 vehicles of the Optima Hybrid and Optima Plug-in Hybrid models within the years 2016 to 2018. This information was communicated via email on Thursday.

Kia Canada has stated that individuals who own affected vehicles will be sent notifications via email. These emails will include guidance informing owners to visit the nearest Kia dealership. At the dealership, the trunk latch base subassembly will be substituted with a brand-new one, according to Kia's official statement.
