Kia to recall 320,000 cars in US due to trunk issues

Kia

Kia, the second-largest car manufacturer in Korea, announced on Friday that it will be recalling nearly 320,000 cars in the United States. This recall is due to a defect in the trunk latch, which may cause the trunk to not open from the inside. The affected models include the 2016-2017 Rio subcompact car, the 2016-2018 Optima, as well as the 2017-2018 Optima hybrid and plug-in hybrid sedans. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has identified that the trunk latch in these models has the potential to crack, preventing the trunk from being opened from the inside and potentially trapping individuals. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries or accidents related to this issue. Kia is urging affected owners to bring their vehicles to Kia dealerships, where the defective trunk latch will be replaced free of charge.
