Foreign visitors to S.Korea in July surpass 1 mn post-COVID-19

For the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, the count of international visitors traveling to South Korea has surpassed the 1 million mark in just one month.

As per the recent release of "Korea Tourism Statistics for July 2023" by the Korea Tourism Organization on Wednesday, the total count of international tourists who traveled to South Korea in July soared to 1,032,188. This marks a significant milestone as it surpasses the one million mark for the first time since the pandemic started.

In contrast to the same month last year, there has been a significant improvement of 71%. The overall count of individuals who visited in the initial half of the year reached 5.46 million, accounting for 55% of the amount recorded during the corresponding timeframe in 2019.

In July, China experienced the most noteworthy influx of tourists with a staggering figure of 224,805 visitors. Following closely, Japan attracted 211,468 tourists, while the US and Taiwan recorded 104,823 and 103,566 visitors respectively. Notably, Taiwan demonstrated remarkable growth in comparison to the previous year, as the number of visitors skyrocketed by approximately 58 times during this period.
