Tourism revenue of Yunnan tops 693 bln yuan in H1 | Macau Business

The tourism industry in Yunnan Province, which is a dominant force in southwest China, experienced a strong recovery in the first six months of 2023, as per information provided by the local culture and tourism department.

In the initial half of this year, Yunnan witnessed a significant rise in tourist visits, reaching a total of 539 million people. This reflects a notable growth of 35 percent compared to the same time frame in 2019. Additionally, the tourism revenue during the months of January to June escalated to a remarkable 693.4 billion yuan (equivalent to roughly 96.5 billion U.S. dollars), showcasing a commendable increase of 22 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2019.

The region has an abundant wealth of tourist destinations, featuring five renowned UNESCO world heritage sites, such as the ancient Lijiang Town and the stunning Hani rice terraces. Moreover, it proudly hosts more than 20 diverse ethnic communities, which adds an extra charm for both local and international visitors.
