Visual Capitalist has created a comprehensive list of the most affluent cities globally, ranking them based on the number of individuals with a fortune exceeding one million dollars.
What is the population of millionaires, centimillionaires, and billionaires in the most affluent cities worldwide? Although these figures do not cover every aspect, they offer a valuable insight into the financial prosperity and economic vitality of some of the richest cities globally.
This eye-catching image utilizes data from the Henley Global Citizens Report, created in collaboration with New World Wealth, to classify the most prosperous urban centers globally. It relies on an extensive collection of data that monitors the actions and financial choices of affluent individuals in more than 150 cities worldwide.
In the most recent version of the list, North America shines brightly with seven of the most affluent cities, in terms of the amount of millionaires residing in them. Specifically, out of the top 10 cities, the United States asserts its dominance by holding five spots, with New York City snatching the coveted first place.
Asia is the part of the world that holds the second highest number of individuals with fortunes worth millions, and it encompasses six urban areas. It comes as no surprise that the People's Republic of China proudly boasts three of these cities, one of which is Hong Kong with its special administrative region status.
Europe ranks third, having a total of five cities, yet only London manages to secure a spot in the top 10 section of the list. Lastly, Oceania is represented by two cities, both situated in Australia.
Which legislations can be detrimental to California's housing market?
A new study conducted by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, reveals that the COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted the mental health of young adults. The study found that nearly half of all young adults surveyed reported symptoms of depression and anxiety, with many experiencing suicidal thoughts. This study sheds light on the alarming consequences of the pandemic on young people's well-being. The physical health impacts of COVID-19 have been well-documented, but attention must also be given to the invisible toll it has taken on mental health. The findings suggest that the isolation and disruption caused by the pandemic have contributed to the alarming increase in mental health issues among young adults. The restrictions on social interactions and the uncertainties about the future have created a breeding ground for anxiety and despair. It is crucial that we address this mental health crisis among young adults. Ignoring or downplaying it will only lead to further detrimental effects on their well-being and futures. Mental health resources should be readily available and accessible, and young adults should be encouraged to seek help and support during these challenging times. As we continue to navigate through the pandemic, it is essential for policymakers and communities to prioritize mental health support. Investing in accessible mental health services will not only alleviate the current crisis but also build a stronger and more resilient generation of young adults who can face future challenges head-on. Together, we can create a society that not only focuses on physical health but also understands and supports the mental well-being of its young population.
The California Chamber of Commerce has a yearly compilation of bills known as the "job killer" list, which has an impressive reputation for effectively halting proposed legislation – a feat that is admired by other business organizations. According to their records, out of the 824 bills labeled as "job killers" from 1997 to 2022, only 58 managed to become law without undergoing substantial modifications that aligned with the Chamber's desires.
Likewise, California home constructors possess their own inventory of housing legislations they are against, albeit not as widely recognized and of shorter duration.
The "housing executioners" identified by the California Building Industry Association are bills that, according to their claims, will exacerbate the housing crisis by augmenting expenses, delaying construction timelines, and adding additional obstacles in the process of building homes.
In the ongoing session, there are six bills in the lineup, one of which is Assembly Bill 68. This particular bill aims to expedite the authorization process for environmentally-conscious urban housing. However, the organization argues that this measure would significantly inflate the expenses associated with housing, as it would exclusively permit the construction of costly multi-family high-rise residences.

The impact of low temperatures on the brain's inclination to increase hunger
Researchers at Scripps Research have discovered neural pathways that trigger an increased appetite in mammals when they come into contact with low temperatures.
When mammals are exposed to cold temperatures, they naturally use up more energy to keep their bodies warm. This causes them to become hungrier and eat more, although no one knew exactly how this process was controlled. However, a recent study published in Nature on August 16, 2023, has identified a group of neurons in mice that act as a "switch" for this behavior, which could have implications for developing treatments for metabolic health and weight loss.
