Alan Joyce, the departing CEO of Qantas, is set to embark on a retirement that many of us would only wish for.

The airline's controversial leader has always had intentions of leaving The Flying Kangaroo, although his departure was announced unexpectedly this past Tuesday.

Joyce will spend a significant portion of his life after retiring enjoying his lavish residence worth over $20 million, located in The Rocks, a prime area in Sydney. This extravagant apartment boasts unparalleled vistas of the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and the stunning Sydney Opera House.

What a wonderful existence.

The stunning property, located in a prime location, had never been inhabited prior to its sale. This news has generated considerable interest and discussion in the media.

Joyce had intended to relish his leisure time, subsequent to leading Qantas since 2008, residing in the posh neighborhood of Mosman in Sydney. His residence was a breathtaking waterfront property.

Purchased in March of the previous year for $19 million, Joyce and her spouse Shane Lloyd have invested millions into renovating the breathtaking four-bedroom home that boasts a private dock with deep waterfront access on Mosman Bay.

The house, which has around 433 square meters of interior living space, was thoughtfully redesigned in 2015 by architect Paul Moon from Seattle. Recently, further changes have been made to the property by Levine Vokaberg.

Joyce never resided in his luxurious $20 million Mosman residence.

But Joyce and Lloyd had a change of mind and made the decision to enlarge their existing residence in The Rocks. In July, they successfully sold their home on Musgrave St for a price slightly below $21 million.

During the short period that Joyce and Lloyd resided in the 1908 residence, they embarked on an extensive internal remodeling project. They adorned the house with fixtures and fittings sourced from the United States, and managed to acquire furniture at a bargain from a sale.

The couple originally planned to settle down in Musgrave St, but they had a change of heart and instead opted to increase their presence in the inner city by adding to their hideaway in The Rocks.

Joyce stated that they had a sudden chance to obtain the remaining portion of the apartment at the same level where they currently reside, which surprised them and led to a change in their original real estate plans.

As a result, our plans to relocate to Mosman had to be scrapped.

"We genuinely hope that the future occupants of 12 Musgrave Street thrive in this magnificent residence."

It's also plausible that the couple might have felt unhappy or dissatisfied due to an unexpected assault that took place at their Mosman residence in July of the previous year. During the incident, their house was subjected to a barrage of eggs and toilet paper.

According to reports, earlier this year, they allegedly forked out roughly $9 million to acquire their neighbor's 223-square meter apartment, which boasts of three bedrooms and a picturesque view of the Opera House. The apartment is situated in the renowned complex designed by Harry Seidler.

The term is that their recent purchase of a sub-penthouse will set off a series of revamps with the aim of combining the entire floor area into a spacious six-bedroom residency, each equipped with an ensuite. This will enable them to comfortably host their relatives from abroad.

Joyce intends to combine the two apartments.

The house is located in the core of The Rocks.

In 2008, when he assumed the top position at Mascot, the apartment was purchased for a hefty sum of $4.575 million. It is highly probable that the current value of this property has doubled since then, and if combined with other apartments, its worth would likely increase even more.

Joyce also possesses a lavish retreat in Palm Beach which she acquired for a whopping $5.25 million back in 2015.
