The initial footage from our Artemis ILS Asia 2023 event, which took place in Singapore on July 13th, showcased the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) delivering a warm and inviting opening speech to over 200 participants. Cheng Khai Lim, the Executive Director of Financial Markets Development Department at MAS, emphasized the significance of enhancing the Asia region's ability to structure and facilitate deals, as Singapore works towards refining its regulatory framework for insurance-linked securities (ILS).
He talked about the potential for growth in the insurance-linked securities (ILS) markets both worldwide and specifically in Asia.
Specifically, he highlighted the necessity for substantial insurance coverage from both conventional and alternative sources, like the financial markets, in order to enhance safeguarding against increasing damages caused by natural disasters in that area.
Lim stated that the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) is dedicated to aiding the development of ILS structuring abilities and fostering the growth of ILS issuance in Singapore.
The Singaporean financial regulatory body, known as the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), will further back catastrophe bonds and insurance-linked securities trading in the Asia and Pacific area. They have decided to extend their ILS grant program for an additional three years, ensuring its continuity until the conclusion of 2025.
